SHAPE OF A SLIDING CAPILLARY CONTACT DUE TO THE HYSTERESIS OF CONTACT ANGLE: THEORY AND EXPERIMENT

نویسندگان

چکیده

We consider a classical problem of capillary neck between parabolic body and plane with small amount liquid in between. In the state thermodynamic equilibrium, contact area bodies layer has circular shape. However, if are forced to slowly move tangential direction, shape will change due hysteresis angle. discuss form under two limiting assumptions about friction law boundary line. also present detailed experimental study sliding dependence on roughness contacting surfaces.

Hysteresis of the Contact Angle of a Meniscus Inside a Capillary with Smooth, Homogeneous Solid Walls.

A theory of contact angle hysteresis of a meniscus inside thin capillaries with smooth, homogeneous solid walls is developed in terms of surface forces (disjoining/conjoining pressure isotherm) using a quasi-equilibrium approach. The disjoining/conjoining pressure isotherm includes electrostatic, intermolecular, and structural components. The values of the static receding θr, advancing θa, and ...

A new model for contact angle hysteresis

We present a model which explains several experimental observations relating contact angle hysteresis with surface roughness. The model is based on the balance between released energy and dissipation, and it describes the stick–slip behavior of drops on a rough surface using ideas similar to those employed in dry friction, elasto– plasticity and fracture mechanics. The main results of our analy...

Contact angle hysteresis, adhesion, and marine biofouling.

Adhesive and marine biofouling release properties of coatings containing surface-oriented perfluoroalkyl groups were investigated. These coatings were prepared by cross-linking a copolymer of 1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate and acrylic acid with a copolymer of poly(2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline) and methyl methacrylate at different molar ratios. The relationships between contact angle, co...

Contact angle determined by spontaneous dynamic capillary rises with hydrostatic effects: Experiment and theory

We investigate spontaneous dynamic capillary rises of liquids. While the liquid front rises spontaneously and vertically in a capillary, hydrostatic effects become more and more important. We theoretically derive new equations for capillary rises with hydrostatic effects, in order to describe the relation between the liquid front height and time, which enables us to experimentally measure conta...
